Payment Plan

The County Attorney’s Office offers a payment plan to assist in the payment of delinquent fines.  Participating in the payment plan may allow you to get your driver’s license back, register a motor vehicle, and/or renew your license plates.  You only need to fill out one application.  See below for more information.

Register a Motor Vehicle or Renew License Plates

If your ability to register a motor vehicle or renew license plates has been suspended because of unpaid court fines and costs, the County Attorney’s Payment Plan may be able to help.  Complete the Payment Plan Application and return it to our office by mail or in person.  It takes 4 to 6 weeks to process your application.  We will send you a letter when your plan is ready.  After receiving your letter, you need to come to the County Attorney’s Office to sign your plan and make your first month’s payment (check or money order payable to Clerk of Court).  Then you may be able to register a motor vehicle or renew your license plates.** In order to qualify, the unpaid court fines and costs must be at least 90 days past due.

** If you owe the State of Iowa money other than unpaid court fines, your ability to register a motor vehicle or renew license plates will continue to be suspended.  We recommend that you sign up for our payment plan anyway, so week-by-week and month-by-month you will get closer to having all the debts paid.
